Our search for premium linen led us to a family-operated weaving mill in the heart of Europe’s historic flax region, an area that’s been working with flax for centuries. Just as France is recognized for its champagne, Belgium is known for the high quality of its flax, producing some of the finest linen in the world—and with over 160 years of expertise, we knew this mill was the perfect fit for Fable.
When searching for a textiles partner, we settled on one of Europe’s most renowned. Our linen is crafted at a fifth generation family mill that’s been operating since 1858, prized for its unparalleled craftsmanship, high quality materials, and sustainable practices. As a zero-waste and carbon-neutral mill, their commitment to sustainability is what sealed the deal for us.
When we set out to make textiles, we chose linen for its durability and longevity. Made from flax, one of the most naturally sustainable and strongest raw materials in the world, it has a storied reputation for being long lasting—and it’s one of the few fabrics that actually gets better (and softer) with age. Fully biodegradable and recyclable, it’s gentle on the earth, too.
Linen is derived from the fibers of the flax plant, which naturally grows over three feet high in just 100 days with the help of rainwater—little to no irrigation is needed. After the plant flowers, the stems are pulled from the soil and dried in the field, and the fiber is extracted and spun into yarn before being woven into the pure linen fabric used to make our textiles. During this process, no part of the plant is wasted. A Fable label is sewn onto each piece, and the quality is carefully assessed before it’s packaged up to journey to your home.
North, south, east, or west, let’s get your Fable flying in the right direction.
