Meet Joy
What first drew you to art?
I have been creating art ever since I can remember. I’ve always loved working with my hands, creating ideas, and falling in love with materials. I began my journey as a professional artist seven years ago. I fell in love with abstract painting, and the rest was history.
What influences your work the most?
I’m always trying to capture the feeling of being in nature, the way your nervous system calms and you feel present within yourself. I recreate those moments as I’m painting, and hope the viewer can feel them through my work.
What themes or concepts are reflected in your work?
In general, my work surrounds the connection to self, family, the ocean, and art in physical spaces. These relationships have been threaded throughout my childhood and adult life, being deeply rooted in my artistic expression.
What feeling do you hope to convey through this series?
I hope these paintings bring a small sense of peace and rest to the viewer, and that they stand as a reminder to take in moments of rest, and to continue to create the places we dwell with intention and beauty.
